Easter at Allendale

Maundy Thursday: Starting at 6:30 PM, we will dine together in the Sanctuary at Allendale with Riviera UMC and families from Family Promise. Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, a defining moment that initiated the sacrament of Holy Communion. We will be seated around tables during the service, enjoying a meal together. Our meal will be Ziti Pasta with Red and White Sauce, Hummus and Pita, Vegetables, Salad, and Dessert.

Good Friday: Beginning at 6:30 PM at Riviera UMC (175 62nd Ave N). This solemn observance marks the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, a poignant reminder of the struggle against oppression and the need for solidarity with the suffering. The service provides an opportunity for reflection on the power of transformative love and the ongoing struggle for a more just world.

Easter Egg Hunt: From 10 AM to 12 PM, join us for a fun-filled morning for children, families, and everyone! The event will include crafts, games, activities, and snacks, and children are encouraged to bring their Easter baskets for the egg hunt. This tradition is not only a fun way to meet the community but also serves as a symbol of new life and the joy that accompanies the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter eggs picked up during the hunt can be exchanged for candy and other small prizes.

Easter Sunrise Service: Easter Sunday begins with a sunrise service at Crescent Lake Park at 7 AM. Multiple local UMC congregations will gather to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection as the sun rises, signifying the emergence of light and the triumph over the darkness of injustice and oppression. This event, open to all, embodies the spirit of unity and inclusivity in the struggle for liberation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blanket, and pets are welcome.

Easter Worship: 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary at Allendale UMC. This celebratory service will feature communion and choir, rejoicing in the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection, symbolizing hope, new life, and the potential for transformation and liberation!
